Welcome! I am Lachlan Ranald Gregor Maclean – Partner at Succession Plus and Managing Director and Principal Adviser at Fulcrum Thinking, a values-led consultancy practice supporting start-ups and SMEs across sectors in organisational change, business process improvement and growth. I strive to leave things better than I find them.
This goes beyond the undoubtable improvements in financial performance, operating efficiency and competitive edge and extends to building the capability of others. My legacy is the organisational talent needed to face confidently into ongoing market shifts.
I believe that transformation starts from the inside-out. As a trusted advisor and 2iC to business owners and C-suite, I leverage generalist experience to dive deep, identify opportunities, mitigate risks and empower executive decision making across the value chain. As a result, I enable ‘whole of enterprise’ transformations that pivot customer-facing organisations competitively, profitably and sustainably into the future.
Following a number of years in professional snow sport, I executed a pioneering integrated model to set-up venue services for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, hailed by the IOC as ‘the best Games ever’. Progressing to help government organisations to capitalise on the success of the Games, I created compelling sport and recreation offerings that bolstered community engagement while maximising revenue return.
A period that honed true generalist experience, I secured my status as an Accredited Associate of the Institute for Independent Business International and in 2010, founded Fulcrum Thinking. Since, I have continued to help organisations to adapt and transform. Highlights include re-establishing Charlotte Pass into a boutique snow resort with improved guest experience and revenue potential, and leading the capital raising program for an innovative start-up, enabling the commercialisation of internationally patented tech.
On a more personal note, I strive to leave things better than I find them. This goes beyond the undoubtable improvements in financial performance, operating efficiency and competitive edge and extends to building the capability of others. My legacy is the organisational talent needed to face confidently into ongoing market shifts.
I am an avid alpine athlete, and has taught and coached alpine skiing professionally at some of the world’s leading alpine resorts.
Professional Experience
My most notable engagements include:
Undertaking a multi-year engagement delivering an Exit and Transition project for the Director/Owner (MDO) client of a Mid-sized Commercial Aluminium & Glass Company wishing to transition away from the day-to-day operations, plan for retirement, and exit his multi-million Aluminium/Glass Company via a sale to a large corporate buyer.
Working with the MDO of IntaCept Limited, delivering the “seed capital” to fund the technology development of an innovative electrical equipment safety testing and tagging system based on a Software as a Service (SaaS) model and mobile phone connectivity. Acting as an interim CEO, I led the development of a Strategic Business Plan that included the creation of a new small public company structure enabling the company to apply for Government Grants whilst pursuing an IPO shareholder marketing strategy with the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board (ASSOB) to raise shareholder equity funds.
As the General Manager in a a multi-year engagement, I was an embedded resource to lead the enterprise-wide transformation of Charlotte Pass Snow Resort to elevate guest services, sales and operational performance. I led capital investment projects, improved management processes, and recruited and led a dedicated management team from the ground-up that re-established Charlotte Pass as a boutique destination snow resort.
Venue Protocol Manager for the Sydney 2000 where I was responsible for the integration of Olympic and Paralympic venue services, event management systems and logistical support across a multiple of sporting venues.
