Why do I need a business valuation in planning for my succession?

business valuation

When you start to think about succession or exit planning, the best place to start is where you are today. And the best way to understand that in most small to medium businesses is to get a valuation done. Not just the number, although that’s important, but the process.

What is it that drives the valuation of your business? What does the risk profile look like? Where have you got areas of your business that are over or underperforming? Because all of those things will be quite important when you design a plan to improve the business and get it ready for an exit or succession event.

The place to start is the valuation. Understand exactly what you’re dealing with today so that you can map out the journey going forward before you’re ready to exit.
