Val King acted as Managing Director of The Rooflight Company for 26 years before exiting with an Employee Ownership Trust. This successful transition led to the founding of BFG (Business as a Force for Good) Associates, her company which facilitates exiting business owners to decide on the best ownership option for them. After effectively managing the transition to employee ownership with The Rooflight Company, Val has been able to remain as a Trustee and member of the Employee Ownership Council, allowing her to remain in practice in the EO space.

For over two decades, Val was able to productively run The Rooflight Company by applying essential processes gained from her cooperate career, whilst relinquishing the less necessary disciplines. She found these processes to be particularly beneficial to SMEs and growing mid-market businesses. Val recognises that when a business gets to a certain size, this is when cooperate disciplines need to be involved, such as trusted advisors, and outsourcing for coaching, strategic marketing and project management. Through her experience, Val has perceived when expertise is outsourced, new process are more likely to stick, and thus the benefits more evident, employees are happier, more productive and effective. Val promotes The Employee Ownership Association, a non for profit association representing all organisations which are employee owned or transitioning to employee ownership across the UK, which you can read more about here.
